The Architecture of Complexity
The Architecture of Complexity
W 2012
Shreyas Sundaram will lead the discussion about "The Architecture of Complexity" by Herbert Simon.
This very influential work is about traits that are shared by a wide variety of complex systems. Specifically, Simon argues that hierarchy is a key architectural component of complex systems, and describes why this architecture is so prevalent. It's beautifully written, and he avoids cluttering his points with too many technical details. Herb Simon won the Nobel Prize in Economics, but he made seminal contributions to a huge variety of fields, from behavioural sciences to sociology to computer science.
